tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"false\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though maternal health services are free in Burkina Faso, many women avoid care because they consider it to be of poor quality. Yet women's perceptions are rarely integrated into the way quality of care is usually measured and evaluated. In this study, 32 women of reproductive age, living in Ouagadougou or in L\u00e9o health district, were asked about their perceptions of quality of maternal care.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The aspects considered most influential by women, whether they live in rural or urban areas, were:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The availability and condition of medical equipment,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continuity of care (i.e., having the same health care worker following the woman in prenatal visits)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hygiene at the health centre (including washrooms)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The relationship with health care workers\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women in rural areas also denounce:\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The run-down infrastructure,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lack of health care personnel in the centres<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women in urban areas:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lack of services for women with disabilities,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decline in quality in CMAs.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other factors that women considered most influential\u2014such as quality of the reception at the center or involvement of the partner\u2014are not part of the indicators currently used to measure quality. The factors that emerged in this study, including rural\u2013urban differences, provide a basis for improving evaluation tools by considering women's voices.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-1562\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Construction of a maternal care quality index based on women's perspectives<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-1562\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-1562\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We compared existing tools for measuring the quality of maternal care (including Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and Harmonized Health Facility Evaluation (HHFA)) with aspects considered influential for quality by women. We have seen that the current tools capture only a part (less than half) of women's perspectives on the quality of care.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An index that considers women's perspectives can be built from existing survey data, but reveals gaps, especially in women's experiences in health centres and relationships with health care workers, which are not captured in existing surveys.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compared to traditional methods, taking into account the views of women can bring a different dimension to quality data-tab=\"1\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-4181\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Discussions with women<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-4181\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"1\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-4181\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"false\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though maternal health services are free in Burkina Faso, many women avoid care because they consider it to be of poor quality. Yet women's perceptions are rarely integrated into the way quality of care is usually measured and evaluated. In this study, 32 women of reproductive age, living in Ouagadougou or in L\u00e9o health district, were asked about their perceptions of quality of maternal care.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The aspects considered most influential by women, whether they live in rural or urban areas, were:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The availability and condition of medical equipment,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continuity of care (i.e., having the same health care worker following the woman in prenatal visits)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hygiene at the health centre (including washrooms)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The relationship with health care workers\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women in rural areas also denounce:\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The run-down infrastructure,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lack of health care personnel in the centres<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women in urban areas:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lack of services for women with disabilities,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decline in quality in CMAs.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other factors that women considered most influential\u2014such as quality of the reception at the center or involvement of the partner\u2014are not part of the indicators currently used to measure quality. The factors that emerged in this study, including rural\u2013urban differences, provide a basis for improving evaluation tools by considering women's voices.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-4182\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Construction of a maternal care quality index based on women's perspectives<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-4182\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-4182\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We compared existing tools for measuring the quality of maternal care (including Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and Harmonized Health Facility Evaluation (HHFA)) with aspects considered influential for quality by women. We have seen that the current tools capture only a part (less than half) of women's perspectives on the quality of care.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An index that considers women's perspectives can be built from existing survey data, but reveals gaps, especially in women's experiences in health centres and relationships with health care workers, which are not captured in existing surveys.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compared to traditional methods, taking into account the views of women can bring a different dimension to quality assessment.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parties prenantes Pour que la voix des femmes compte POUR QUE LA VOIX DES FEMMES COMPTE \u00c9tude m\u00e9thode mixte fait au Burkina Faso, avec la participation des femmes, sur la qualit\u00e9 des sois maternels.
